SCAR consultation workshop on Sustainable Food Systems: highlights from EU FOOD SAFETY PLATFORM

The ARCH, Bioeconomy and Food Systems Strategic Working Groups (SWG) of SCAR organised an International Expert Consultation (workshop) on the issue of Sustainable Food Systems.

The aim was to identify major and priority research questions that shall be addressed in the short, medium and long terms and to support the delineation of urgently needed measures for successful policy development and implementation towards a Sustainable Global Food System. The role of international cooperation while tackling the challenge of global interdependencies of food systems was highlighted as well as means to boost it.

Here are 3 highlights captured by the EU FOOD SAFETY PLATFORM, represented by Veronica Lattanzio:

  • The FutureFoodS partnership prepares to endorse the development of more international  R&I.

  • Transformation of the EU food system cannot happen in isolation, there are mutual dependencies to be explored and characterized. This is one of the objectives of the EU-AU Partnership on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA)  EU has a leading role to play and responsibility to support the global food system transformation.

  • At the global level agrifood systems transformation through accelerated climate actions will help to achieve food security and nutrition: FAO embarks on presenting a Global Roadmap
